The new Tomb Raider starring Alicia Vikander is an amazing movie.
I watched the movie on its 2nd week because there was nothing else in the cinema. I was not really excited to see this movie. My daughter wanted to watch Wrinkle in Time with her grandma so we just tagged along and ended up watching Tomb Raider. And boy! We were not disappointed!
What sets it apart from other Tomb Raider franchise is the fact that Lara Croft was very relatable and realistic. She is still rich beyond compare but she did not have "super powers". She was portrayed to be really fit and athletic but not in a super-human way.
Lara Croft gets wounded, tired, stabbed and almost always about to die. The best part is Alicia's amazing acting skills. Her facial expressions were on point.
The writers took on a supernatural approach on the plot twist as did the other movies before it. "The world is going to end" theme was what it was from the start. But when they got to the climax of the film, they gave us a surprising revelation that it was not supernatural at all; the Japanese myth was not supernatural at all, it was a plague that spreads with just a touch.
This plot twist won my heart! I was so happy that it was not some Pandora's box, but it was a sickness that can actually happen in the real world.
Kudos to the writers who decided to approach this movie they way they did. I am definitely looking forward to more action thrillers like this one.
This is a MUST WATCH movie for adults and kids alike! It is very much entertaining as it is inspiring especially to women, young and old!
