Avicii: True Stories

Updated: May 12, 2020

A Netflix documentary on the life of Avicii, once the highest paid DJ in the world. Showed how he started his career and worked his way up to fame.

Tim Bergling also known as Avicii to his fans is a Swedish DJ who brought us the hit songs "Wake Me Up" and "Without You", to name a few.

He explained that he got the name Avicii which means "the lowest level of Buddhist hell" (Avici). He thenn added the "i" because "Avici" was already taken on MySpace.

I was never really an avid fan of dance music because it rarely has any lyrics. But when Avicii released his albums, I started to appreciate the genre more. I was able to enjoy the dancing beat and have a deeper connection to the music because of its' lyrics. Avicii's lyrics was also very deep and meaningful which made me like it so much more. He also made great choices with his collaborations.

I personally was not following his career as I did not know that he decided to retire early. I was under the impression that he was just not making any good music anymore. Or that he was no longer mainstream and just decided to focus on dance music genre, which was not my cup of tea.

Despite this, I was still shocked when I heard the news of his death. As I would any death of a really young person with so much more to live for. The saddest part in this tragedy is the fact that he took his own life. There is nothing more tragic than that, for me.

While downloading movies, I stumbled upon this 2017 documentary by Netflix. So I decided to download and watch it.

It was a very intimate and no-holds-barred documentary to the life he left behind.

The documentary showed that Tim was struggling with pancreatitis. He was in so much pain all the time. He was in and out of hospital.

You can see how much he wants to be healthy. He was on top of his medications that he even questioned the doctors as to why they keep on giving him medications that were not really curing him. He really wanted all the pain to go away but his body will just not cooperate.

He looked really weak and very thin at the early part of his career. He was very frail, hunched back and very pale.

After his surgery, he decided to take a break from touring and focus on getting well. He came back looking so much different. He had a trainer with him all the time and he looked really happy and healthy.

He started recording more music and collaborating with more artists. He also started producing music with other bands and artists.

But behind all the glitz and glamour of his career, you can see that he was still searching for himself, a meaning to his life and who he really is. He was happy when he discovered he was an introvert and finally able to explain how he does not enjoy small talks, etc.

He also said that he loved his passion and his art but he was not built for the touring and all the fame. That this life he was living was not for him. He was happy but still sad and empty inside.

It was just really sad to see that he was doing so much better, he was very talented, but this world, his life, was not enough. He was too good a soul for this cruel cruel world.

Rest in peace Tim.

Make beats and music up in heaven now.
